The beloved jazz vocalist
Gregory Porter may be instantly recognisable from his trademark deerstalker cap, but his sonorous, Grammy-winning voice speaks for itself. Born in California in 1971, Porter grew up in a musical household and began singing in church, where his mother was a pastor and his father a singer.
After an injury hindered his hopes to pursue American Football, Porter turned to his vocal talents and moved to New York City in 2004 to build a career. After performing local shows and earning himself a residency, in 2010 he released his debut Water. Porter's popularity rocketed from the underground jazz scene to the mainstream in 2013, when his third full-length Liquid Spirit – his first on Blue Note Records – won Best Jazz Vocal Album at the Grammy's. Three years later its follow-up, Take Me to the Alley, won the same award. In 2017 he released Nat "King" Cole & Me, a buttery smooth ode to one of his musical heroes.
In 2024, Porter announced an extensive UK tour for spring 2025 with Jo Harrop in support.

This was the first night of Gregory Porters tour in Brighton and he was on top form with his extended band. Gregory is so generous in allowing every one of his musicians space to show their musicality throughout the show. Really really enjoyed the whole evening.
Another fantastic performance from Mr Porter and his brilliant band almost ruined by the terrible sound at this venue. The sound quality is worse than any other venue I have been to, and so bad that I had to wear ear plugs. It was very tinny and unnecessarily loud for this type of music. I have been to this venue for many events from comedy to rock, but I probably won't be back for anything musical.
Lovely venue, the acoustics and sound was like nothing else. Parking and leaving was easy, well manned carpark and stewards further down the road. Perfect loved every moment and of course Gregory Porter was just sublime.
Great night at Llangollen Eisteddfod arena watching the Master at work and a great new name on the block JP Cooper. A Brilliant saxophonist with Gregg and top playing by double bass ,drum, piano ,organ and trumpet players. A top warm up by JP and his band. Catch them both whenever you can .
Mr Porter and his band were all on fine form. The stage set up in the pavilion of the Eisteddfod was just right. I thoroughly enjoyed his set. He seems quite happy to let his band members share the limelight. Like most recording artists, you dont fully appreciate the power of their voice until you hear it in the flesh. With that said, when he talks to the audience, there is a warmth and a kindness that emanates from him in-between songs, that for me makes him extra special.
I have seen Gregory Porter in concert several times but the whole show was done and dusted including encore which isn't good enough. He has so many songs to do and when you have paid well over £100 a ticket you want some value for money
Had the pleasure of seeing Mr Gregory Porter and his band of amazing musicians. Great seats, sadly the venue wasn't full but enough for a chilled yet wonderful atmosphere. This mans voice is so smooth he makes Barry White sound like Bonnie Tyler after a night out on the town. The spirit of love is with this man and all those with him on the stage. A beautiful concert.
To see Gregory Porter at Llangollen was such a privilege and joy - it seemed to be a very personal show and his performance together with his really gifted backing band was astounding. His engagement with the audience was great and he gave each song a personal introduction as to the meaning behind the words. His warm up act JP Cooper was also a great surprise as he was such a talented singer and song writer and his genre was perfect for the audience . A night to remember!
An amazing performance by Gregory Porter and his band at the Llangollen music festival. His rich vocal tones & accompanying music gave myself & my partner the best live music performance we have seen. It will remain a wonderful memory.
Gregory was amazing as always he expresses so much in his performance and the band is wonderful
Well organised, from parking to amenities . Concert and support JB Cooper were excellent.
A wonderful unique experience in the middle of a forest. Gregory Porter was amazing live ! Gig was well arranged and great stewarding and facilities
July 1st went to see Gregory Porter at in scarborough this artist is truly amazing fabulous vioce great band and such a nice humble person. The weather was awful but from when he came on through his full show the rain stopped and as soon has he finished the rain started again but it didn't spoil a fantastic night one of the best shows i have ever seen in my 76 years would definitely recommend everyone to go and see gregory porter it's a very uplifting experience 😀
The supporting band was really good. Then we waited ages for Gregory to come on stage. After the first couple of songs we left. He hardly sang, it was mainly instrumental. We went to see him not his band
The concert was superb but it was puzzling that chairs were not allowed in. Instead many people brought in blankets to sit on the ground. Many of these took up more space than chairs would have taken up! Gregory's style is not dancey music so standing for all of that time could be difficult for some. By not having chairs an older demographic could be put off attending..
Gregory Porter was fantastic and the venue was amazing!
Wow Gregory Porter is one smooth gent. His voice is brilliant and he is so humble. He sang his heart out for 2.5 hours, right up to the curfew. Thanks Gregory for bringing us JP Cooper, he was brilliant and had the crowd from his first song. A brilliant night.
Gregory Porter was as b brilliant as ever, and the setting of Lincoln Castle and the well-organised, super-friendly VIP services made this a very special evening.
Absolutely amazing voice, great charisma, band were all brilliant, great atmosphere in the castle grounds. Easy access to a large bar, short queue time, plenty of portaloos to hand.
