About

The goth meets indie-pop quartet that packs a punch

Pale Waves have been on a personal and artistic journey since the release of their debut album My Mind Makes Noises in 2018. These experiences have begun to inform their songs in recent years and are what jump to the fore on Unwanted. “It was really the only thing this album could be called,” said Heather Baron-Gracie at the time. “It’s bold and unapologetic, and that’s what the Pale Waves community is about. We don’t need to fit a perfect mould, we don’t need to apologise for being ourselves, and we won’t change for anyone. That acceptance is what connects us.”

Unwanted was a record that reached out into the passionate community of misfits and LGBTQI fans around the band, tapping into darker emotions than ever before while also striking a fresh tone of defiance. The band played a UK headline tour in November 2022, culminating with a show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. The tour followed a packed summer of UK festival appearances, including Neighbourhood Weekender, Community Festival, Y-Not, Kendal Calling, Boardmasters and Reading & Leeds. Less than two years later, a mysterious new band called Perfume signalled the arrival of new era for Pale Waves.

Perfume, was of course, Pale Waves themselves - debuting new single 'Perfume' at Dork magazine's Dork Night Out in the 100 Club and announcing new album Smitten for 20 September via Dirty Hit. Alongside the announcement cane news of a major new world tour – bringing Pale Waves back to UK stages in October 2024.

  • No other band like it for me

by AGC on 02/11/2024Rating: 5 out of 5

Favourite band before i saw them live and having Seen them 3 times at festivals in glasgow, Manchester and a gig in Glasgow they are undoubtedly my favourite live experience as well. Great crowd rapport, a sense of atmosphere you can't replicate anywhere else, every album brings its own mood and vibe. Just amazing. I hope there's still so much more to come.

  • Not Wolf Alice but pretty good

by ScoobyChooChoo on 16/10/2024O2 Institute Birmingham - BirminghamRating: 4 out of 5

The venue at O2 Academy Digbeth Birmingham was superb. Love it there. Balcony is perfectly placed and with bench seats and high tiers everyone can see everything. Staff and security are exceptional. Sounds and lighting top class. Pale Waves - what I was expecting but I came away thinking it was all too much of an effort for them. Emotionless would sum it up but good nevertheless. However: Swim School as support. Incredible and the second time I ended up ordering the vinyl of a support band at the gig while they were playing. They were just phenomenal- I have to say better than Pale Waves.
