About
The country star joins C2C 2025
Lainey Wilson has quickly established herself as one of the most talented new voices in country music.
Born in 1992 in Baskin, Louisiana, Lainey Wilson was immersed in country music from a young age. With her father Brian, a farmer (who first showed Wilson to strum the guitar), and her mother Michelle, a teacher, she often cites her parents for enabling her most formative musical experiences. From playing the classics of Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell around the farm where she grew up to delving into Southern rock and gospel, Wilson had ample inspiration when she began writing her own material aged nine. By her early teens, she was honing the sincere lyrics and impressive vocals that the ‘Heart Like A Truck’ singer is now known for, performing wherever she could around her small rural town (population: 250). After graduating from high school in 2011, Lainey Wilson made the inevitable move to the bright lights of Nashville, a rite of passage for any aspiring artist looking to pursue a career in country music.
After persevering for several years touring Nashville’s bar circuit, living in a camper trailer and picking up jobs as a Hannah Montana impersonator (she’s since admitted that she would sometimes open the set as herself: Lainey Wilson supporting ‘Hannah Montana’), Wilson’s break finally happened in 2019. She signed a deal with BBR Music Group, and that same year, released her single ‘Dirty Looks’, shortly followed in 2020 by ‘Things a Man Oughta Know’. The latter, a tender tale of self-sufficiency and emotional intelligence, became a well-deserved breakout hit and gave Wilson the platform to showcase her sharp songwriting and modern storytelling to a much larger audience. The song ended up at No.1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and later earned her the ‘New Female Artist of the Year’ award at the 2021 ACM Awards.
Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’, Lainey Wilson’s first album with the backing of a major label, was released in 2021 to great critical acclaim. Blending classic country themes from her upbringing with the modern production afforded by Nashville producer Jay Joyce, Wilson was praised for her unique vocals and heart-on-her-sleeve lyrics. Rolling Stone said of the effort, “The songs feel clever and lived-in; Wilson keeps bars in business and chronicles a doomed relationship on the quiet gut-punch of a title track. Elsewhere she sticks up for her LA (as in: her native Louisiana) and asks “WWDD” (as in: What Would Dolly Do). Mostly, she shows off a hell of a voice…”
In 2022, Wilson released the album Bell Bottom Country, featuring the hit ‘Heart Like A Truck’, which promptly won Best Country Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, which sits alongside seven Country Music Association Awards, six Academy of Country Music Awards, and countless other nominations to date.
2024 saw the release of Whirlwind, Wilson’s fifth studio album. Featuring the songs ‘Country’s Cool Again’ and ‘Hang Tight Honey’, the album became the singer’s first top 10 placement in the Billboard 200. As well as releasing more music, Wilson also opened Bell Bottoms Up, a three-story bar, music venue and Cajun restaurant located in downtown Nashville, in honour of her long-standing affinity to the 70s trouser style.
In September 2024 Wilson announced that she would be joining the C2C line-up in 2025 in London, Belfast and Glasgow.
